The Unitarian Universalist United Nations Office (UU-UNO) is proud to announce the completion of our 2011 United Nation Sunday resource packet. In celebration of the founding of the UN on October 24th, 1945, the UU-UNO invites congregations and individual UUs to deepen their understanding of the United Nations by devoting one service in October to reaffirming the connections between UU principles and vital issues dealt with at the UN. This packet includes everything you need to plan a UN Sunday service, from the history of the UN to a sample Order of Service with suggested hymns and readings. The packet also includes information about our theme for this year’s UN Sunday: Empower Women for a Better World. We invite you to submit the sermon or address from your UN Sunday service for the 2012 Dana Greeley Award. Consisting of a $1,000 honorarium and the opportunity to deliver the winning address at General Assembly 2011, the award honors the memory of the Rev. Dana McLean Greeley, first president of the Unitarian Universalist Association and a strong supporter of the United Nations. Sermons highlighting the work of the United Nations and the UU-UNO will be given priority consideration for this award. Send submissions by February 1, 2011 to greeleysermon @ uu-uno.org.
